In this module, students will explore through different means the way that news can be skewed to appeal to a chosen audience, and why the ‘facts’ are often lost or misinterpreted. Students will experience reading, interpreting and writing for news outlets in different formats and will analyse what effect the changing of information or a title can have on a person’s interpretation of the article. Students will finally explore news articles that have been blown out of proportion from the facts that they were originally based on and come to understand how these can fuel public opinion.

The module Fakebook - The Art of Critical Thinking is applicable to an older age range and links in well with curriculum aspects from Year 9 and 10 Science and Geography. View the chart here to see where it can fit into your upcoming school topics.
