In this module, students will learn about the life cycle of Australian grayling fish, a threatened fish which migrates from the ocean, back upstream as juvenile whitebait, and spends its adult life in freshwater where it breeds. The module centres on a race though an obstacle course (representing the challenges the fish faces during its migration) and concludes with an arts and crafts session of colouring/designing their own grayling. The game teaches students about animal life history and promotes awareness of environmental threats in aquatic ecosystems.
The Hooks and Ladders module is applicable to a wide range of curriculum aspects from Grade 4 up to Year 9. View the chart here to see where it can fit into your upcoming school topics.
